First of its kind Mantegna and Bellini Exhibition, National Gallery, London

A new exhibition brings together rare loans from around the world of two of the Renaissance’s most influential painters; Giovanni Bellini and Andrea Mantegna.

This exhibition is the first-ever to explore the influences and relationship between these two ground-breaking artists – connected through marriage, they both had their own successful careers with Mantegna rising to fame as court painter to the powerful Gonzaga family in Mantua.

Both developed their own styles by pushing the boundaries; Mantegna being noted for compositional innovation and classical Romanesque focus and Bellini in the use of natural light and shadow to create hitherto unseen realism and atmosphere.

“Mantegna and Bellini” opens 1 October 2018 – 27 January 2019 at the National Gallery, London, UK
